The Landshut Short Film Festival (LAKFF) is a popular international festival held annually in Landshut, the historic capital of Lower Bavaria near Munich. Open to international short films of all genres, the festival presents around 200 selected films across nine screens at three venues. Each year, approximately 5,000 visitors attend its screenings and events. Selected films compete for 11 jury and audience awards across eight competition categories, with approximately €17,000 in total prize money. The 27th Landshut Short Film Festival will take place from March 10 to 15, 2027.

Six days in March, more than 200 short films and one of Bavaria’s most vibrant meeting places for international short-form cinema: the Landshut Short Film Festival brings filmmakers, industry professionals and enthusiastic audiences together in the historic city of Landshut. The 27th edition will take place from March 10 to 15, 2027.
In 2026, the festival presented 221 films from 36 countries, including 29 world premieres, 18 European premieres and 82 German premieres. Around 4,900 visitors attended the screenings and festival events, while 222 accredited filmmakers from 14 countries travelled to Landshut, underlining the festival’s growing international reach and personal atmosphere.
The programme spans eight competition categories, from German-language and international short films to documentaries, animation, regional cinema, children’s films and the popular Shock Blocks dedicated to horror, fantasy and science fiction. Selected films compete for jury and audience awards with approximately €17,000 in total prize money.
Beyond the screenings, the Landshut Short Film Festival is known for lively discussions, personal encounters and a warm, filmmaker-friendly atmosphere. Screenings take place at venues including Kinopolis, the historic Salzstadel and Kinoptikum, turning Landshut into an international hub for new ideas, distinctive voices and memorable short films.
